School Ethos

Inch National School is a catholic school under the patronage of the Bishop of Killaloe. We wish it to be a place of learning where the focus remains on developing the moral, spiritual, physical, academic, aesthetic, cultural aspects of each individual pupil.

This we envisage as occurring in an atmosphere of unity, friendship and mutual respect where all members of the school community feel happy and cared for, and work in a spirit of encouragement and enthusiasm while recognising and celebrating diversity. We wish it to be a place, which values truth, honesty, openness and the worth of each person and is characterised by kindness and fairness.

While Inch National School is a school with a Catholic ethos, it has due recognition for pupils of other faiths or no faith. Our Catholic ethos finds expression through the care values of our school and through our actions, attitudes and practices:

In this school we want students to be self-motivated and to be at peace with themselves, others and the world. Achievement of these aspirations by the school requires the help and co-operation of students, teachers and parents.

Religious instruction is normally timetabled each day for one half-hour. A Christian ethos however permeates the school day and the life of the school. There is a spirit of prayer in the school. The major Catholic and local feasts are celebrated. Liturgical celebrations are held on occasions and the whole school celebrates the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation annually.

Our Approach

Inch National School is fully committed to the holistic development of the pupils in our care. Pupils are afforded opportunities to engage in learning experiences that enhance and promote their academic, personal, spiritual and emotional development.

The school is a learning community where all partners (pupils, staff, parents, Board of Management) are considered to be life-long learners. Staff regularly engage in continuing professional development. This has resulted in the implementation of programmes to enhance teaching and learning throughout the school. Such programmes include Mata sa Rang for numeracy, Building Bridges for Literacy, Incredible Years for promoting positive behaviour and Self Assessment Learning Folders to enhance critical reflection among our pupils.
